Action-packed fun for Pre-Primary and Primary School Girls & Boys

Our Junior Club provides a well-defined pathway for young players to develop and excel at all levels of cricket. This pathway allows young cricketers to progressively acquire the skills and values of the game and to make the transition from Junior to Youth and Senior Cricket.

Junior Season

The season runs from October to March but games take a break over the summer school holidays.

Junior Grades

Teams are grouped into Grades based on the player’s school year to help ensure an even and fair competition. Select a Grade below for more details.

Junior Yellow Caps Pre-school & Year 1

Fun and interactive sessions that introduce juniors to the different aspects of cricket including batting, bowling and fielding.

Ages: Pre-school and Year 1.
Players are approximately 4–6 years old.
When: Late Friday afternoon – Sessions will start at approximately 5.00pm. (Times will be confirmed and communicated closer to the time).
Starts on Friday 3 November – no play on Show Day.
Gear: Wear comfortable clothing. All other equipment is provided.
Cost: $80 for the season.

Registrations for Yellow Caps open on 15th August and close 31st October.

Section 4 Primary School Year 1 & 2

If your child has participated in the Yellow Caps programme or is a keen backyard cricketer then they are ready to participate in Section 4, the beginners grade. They can choose to join at the start of the season (full season) or half-way through the season (half season).

  • Teams consist of 6 players and games are 12-overs per innings.
  • All players participate in batting, bowling and fielding.
  • As these sessions are played with an incrediball there is no need for protective gear such as pads or a helmet.
Ages: Primary School Year 1 to Year 2.
Players are approximately 5-6 years old.
When:

Saturday mornings at 8:45 am or 10:30 am (90-minute games).

1 February – 22 March 2025

Training: Practices are normally 45 minutes on a day/time determined by the coach.
Gear:

Supplied: Weedons Cricket Club will supply you with a Club shirt and a Club cap. The cap is yours to keep. Caps can be replaced for $10.

Required: White shorts and trainers.

Cost: $100 for the Full-Season. (Oct-Mar)
$50 for the Half-Season. (Feb-Mar)

 

Section 3 Primary School Year 3 & 4

This intermediate grade continues to grow and develop young cricketers’ skills and confidence.

  • Teams consist of 8 players and games are 16-overs per innings.
  • All players participate in batting, bowling and fielding.
  • As these sessions are played with an incrediball there is no need for protective gear such as pads or a helmet.
Ages: Primary School Year 3 to Year 4.
Players are approximately 7–8 years old.
When:

Saturday mornings at 9:00 am (120-minute games).

Training: Practices are normally 45-60 minutes on a day/time determined by the coach.
Gear:

Supplied: Weedons Cricket Club will supply you with a cap. The Club cap is yours to keep. Caps can be replaced for $10.
If you have outgrown your shirt from last season, please make note of the required size on your registration form and bring your old shirt (washed and clean please) to the first practice.

Required: White shorts and trainers.

Cost: $100 for the season.

Registrations for Section 3 open on 23rd August and close 15th September.

Section 2 Primary School Year 5 & 6

This grade is played with a leather hardball. Players continue to grow and develop their skills while wearing protective pads and a helmet.

  • Teams consist of 8 players and games are 20-overs per innings.
  • All players participate in batting, bowling and fielding.
Ages: Primary School Year 5 to Year 6.
Players are approximately 9-11 years old.
When:

Saturday mornings at 9:00 am (150-minute games).

19 October – 14 December 2024

Training: Practices are normally 60-90 minutes on a day/time determined by the coach.
Gear:

Supplied: Weedons Cricket Club will supply you with a cap. The Club cap is yours to keep. Caps can be replaced for $10.
If you have outgrown your shirt from last season, please make note of the required size on your registration form and bring your old shirt (washed and clean please) to the first practice.

Required: White trousers and white trainers (preferred).

Optional: Cricket bat, batting pads, thigh pad, box, gloves and helmet (these items are also available in the Team’s gear bag).

Cost: $120 for the season.

Registrations for Section 2 open on 23rd August and close 15th September.

Section 1 Primary School Year 7

Note: if you are a Year 8 student, go to “Section 1A – Year 8” below.

This grade is played with a leather hardball as players continue to grow and develop their skills. This grade is ideal for players who are really starting to commit to the game but new players are also welcome.

  • Teams consist of 9 players and games are 27-overs per innings.
  • All players participate in batting, bowling and fielding.
Ages: Primary School Year 7.
Players are approximately 11-12 years old.

Saturday mornings at 9:00 am (180-minute games).

Due to the transition from Primary School to College, all Year 8 students must register for this half-season competition.

This grade is played with a leather hardball. Players continue to grow and develop their skills. This grade is ideal for players who are really starting to commit to the game but new players are also welcome.

  • Teams consist of 9 players and games are 27-overs per innings.
  • All players participate in batting, bowling and fielding.
Ages: Primary School Year 8 ONLY.
Players are approximately 12-13 years old.
When:

Saturday mornings at 9:00 am (180-minute games).

Matches start Saturday 19 October 2024
Last match on Saturday 14 December 2024
